There are several reasons to use solar powered pool pumps. For those who live off the traditional power grid, solar power is a way of life. Harnessing energy from the sun’s rays makes sense for pool pumps because swimming pools are synonymous with sunny environments where solar power is readily available.

The main difference between electrically powered pool pumps and solar powered pool pumps is that the standard ones use AC volts (alternating current) while the solar powered ones use DC (direct current). Solar panels collect the sun’s rays and convert it into electricity to power the pool’s pumps.

If there is a lack of sunshine, then extra solar panels are often used. Rechargeable batteries also come in handy in order to store the needed electricity. Solar powered pool pumps are a great option for the energy conscious consumer.
