Solar
blankets for swimming pools, like pools themselves, must be properly
cared for. To ensure that solar blankets lasts as long as possible,
follow these tips:
• Reel – a reel makes it easier to put on and remove the
blanket from a pool. It is also the best place to store a blanket
when it is not in use. If it is simply taken off the pool and thrown
aside, it may be snagged, attract dirt and debris that would later
be transferred to the pool, and worse.
• Storage – while reels are good for temporary storage,
solar blankets for swimming pools should be properly stored away for
winter. Place it in the proper bag (most come with a bag for storage)
and store it in a garage or shed.
• Cleaning – look for a cleaner made specifically for
solar blankets. The blanket need only be wetted with pool water, squirted
with the cleaner, and scrubbed clean. As long as a proper cleaner
is used, it is perfectly safe to clean the cover while it is still
on the pool. A hose can be used to spray the cleaner off the pool
– it is best to aim the direction of the hose spray toward the
skimmer so that debris is not washed into the pool.
• Good water – by keeping the chemicals of a pool properly
balanced and maintained, solar blankets for swimming pools will last
longer. Also, keep in mind that the cover should be removed and kept
off for at least a few hours after the pool as had chemical treatment
or been shocked.
