Solar
blankets for pools are becoming more and more popular in residences
across the United States for three main reasons: they trap heat in,
keep debris out, and prevent loss of water due to evaporation.
• Water loss – a pool left completely uncovered is prone
to evaporation. This means that the pool must constantly be refilled
– some pools lose more than an inch of water each week. While
an inch may not seem like a lot, it can really add up after an entire
swimming season. Also, the balance of chemicals is weakened as water
is lost.
• Debris – leaves, dust, and other debris not only makes
a pool look dirty and less desirable for swimming, but it can also
stain or bleach a pool if allowed to sink to the bottom and decompose.
Solar blankets for pools cover the entire swimming pool, leaving few
spots for debris to sneak in – with a solar blanket in use,
less cleaning maintenance is required.
• Heat – heating is actually the main purpose of the “blankets.”
Not only do they trap heat in and prevent it from escaping during
cool nights, they also create additional heat. The blankets are made
of many bubbles (and look a bit like bubble wrap). Each of these bubbles
magnifies the sun. Also, dark colored blankets absorb more heat.
Solar blankets for pools should be used whenever the pool is not
in use. Reels can be used in conjunction with the cover to ensure
that it is easy to put on and take off of the pool.
