Solar pool blankets are, for some, one of the greatest money-saving inventions when it comes to pools and knowing how to use them. But if you are among those who haven’t made up their minds, educate yourself using online resources and decide for yourself.

All you really need to cover your pool is a basic plastic pool blanket, made of plastic and reasonably priced. A solar cover is able to actually increase the heat of the pool water without using an actual heater. That is because these covers are specifically designed to be able to use the sun to increase the heat in the pool. A heater allows you to control the temperature more precisely, though, and works best when used together with a solar cover.

A solar cover includes a transparent opening on the top that attracts sunlight. Once the light enters into the pool area, the cover or blanket traps that heat inside the pool water. The next time you remove the blanket, you will find your pool is several degrees warmer than the last time you were in the water.

As you make decisions about blankets and covers, you may also want to think about what kinds of covers you want. Some that are automatic, while others are semi-automatic and still others are manually reeled on and off the pool. This choice does really affect a cover’s ability to heat pool water, but it could make your life a little easier if you choose to use automated covers and it is within your budget.
