Pool
toys are a must-have for summertime fun. While beach balls, inner
tubes, and other basic toys are still popular for summer splash days,
the “noodle” has quickly become a favorite. Noodles are
long, straw-like toys. One of the main reasons for the popularity
of “noodles” is their versatility. Here are some suggestions
as to how they can be used:
• Water aerobics – kids and adults can use noodles for
basic water aerobic moves. One can be “ridden” like a
horse to keep a person afloat as he or she runs in place or performs
other moves.
• Inner tube – a connector piece can be used to create
and inner tube. The inner tube can be worn for fun floatation (not
to be used as a safety floatation device), or they can be placed at
the far end of a pool and kids can try to toss a ball into the middle
of the ring. They could also be used for a human ring toss.
• Sword fights – because they are so soft and slightly
flimsy, these pool toys can be used for safe sword flights, in or
out of the water.
The above are just a few examples of what noodles can be used for.
For an additional activity, have kids brainstorm other uses for these
pool toys. Have them come up with out-of-the-water uses. Keep in mind
that noodles can also be cut into sections.
