Pool solar blankets are also called solar pool covers. The main functions of a solar cover are:

• To warm the pool by retaining heat from the sun

• To minimize water loss due to evaporation

• To cut down on excessive chemical use caused by evaporation

Unlike safety covers, pool solar blankets freely float on the water's surface with no anchors. They look like giant bubble wrap and can raise the water temperature by as much as 10 to 15 degrees. This type of cover work equally as well for aboveground and inground pools at retaining heat and reducing evaporation.

Pool solar blankets should be removed completely from the pool before swimming. Though they are not designed for safety or to keep out debris, they are ideal for extending your pool season.
