Pool
pumps and filters work in unison to keep swimming pool water clean.
Of course, filters won't protect your pool's water from algae, bacteria
or minerals. Nonetheless, they are still vital to the smooth operation
of the pool's hydraulics. There are three main types of filters -
sand, cartridge, and diatomaceous earth (d.e.). Each has a specialty
method, but all filters function to remove grease, dirt, and oil from
your pool's water.
For high-end performance with low maintenance, look for a cartridge
filter. It removes particles smaller than the human eye and hosing
it off is all you have to do to clean it. Sand filters are the bestselling
filter out there because they are less expensive and very simple to
operate and maintain. Filtering with a diatomaceous earth filter results
in clean water that sparkles because the d.e. filter strips the pool
water of microscopic contaminants that have serious effects on water
clarity.
To decide which combination of pool pumps and filters will fit best
for your pool, work closely with your builder to determine the needs
and requirements of your pool's water volume. If it's a new pool,
it is worth the effort to obtain the best equipment right off the
bat. If you're planning remodeling or expanding an existing pool,
any pool professional will be happy to review all the elements of
your project.
