Pool maintenance is the job no pool owner looks forward to. If you can afford the expense of hiring a professional, you could save yourself some stress, but there are several routine steps you can accomplish toward maintaining your own pool.

Daily Care

• Test pool water for sanitizer level - make sure the pH and alkalinity levels are balanced. Any testing strips you purchase will show you how. Unbalanced pools cause murky water, damaged equipment, erosion, and alter water chemistry.
• Add chlorine or bromine - this step will sterilize your pool by killing bacteria and algae in your pool.
• Check skimmer basket - clear the basket of any debris and your pool water will continue circulating as designed for pool maintenance.

Weekly Care

• Chlorine shock - these weekly shocks are necessary to quickly raise the chlorine level and destroy combined chlorine compounds.?
• Add algaecide - a good one will prevent algae from growing in your pool without damaging its surface.?
• Add metal out - this will eliminate tiny suspended particles that escape even the most sophisticated filtration systems.?
• Add clarifier - clarifying agents bond smaller elements that have escaped filtration into larger pieces that can be skimmed or vacuumed from your pool. Your pool maintenance will be complete by using a pool vacuum, brushing the walls, skimming for leaves as needed, and checking the filter regularly.
