Installing
pool covers is not something that most people think about too much before
they buy their pool. Although to some people installing a cover may
seem as easy as making a bed, the fact of the matter is that there is
a process that needs to be followed. If this process is followed, then
it is much easier to install these covers.
However, if the process is not followed there could be some serious
trouble among those who decide to try to do the installation their own
way instead of the proper way.
Follow these steps if you are installing rectangular pool covers:
• Step 1: Measure the cover in order to be able to determine
the exact overlap. For example, a 5 x 5 strap spacing will have somewhere
around one foot of overlap. The actual amount will range from between
10 and 15 inches.
On the other hand, a 3 x 3 strap spacing will have around 18 inches
of overlap, although the final number could end up anywhere between
15 and 22 inches total.
• Step 2: After the first step has been completed you should
then stretch the cover all the way over the pool and use heavy items
to hold the corners in their proper places. At this time, you should
adjust for correct overlap on all sides. If the cover has any cutouts,
the proper alignment needs to be adjusted during this step.
• Step 3: All of the anchor points must be located one-and-a-half
feet from the edge of the cover and must be in line exactly with the
strap. It is important to remember that the anchor points do not need
to be located 18 inches from the edge of the pool.
• Step 4: This is the step where you need to install any kind
of springs on those straps on which anchors were just installed. For
best result, tighten the straps until the springs are compressed about
50 percent.
• Step 5: Inspecting is the final step of the installation. You
should make sure that all the springs are no more than about halfway
compressed. Also, you should check to ensure that the pool cover is
taut all the way across the pool in each direction.
Of course, these steps are not completely all-inclusive, but you can
get a good basic understanding of the process that needs to take place
in order to install pool covers in the right way.
Also, this process simply covers the way that the covers are often
installed on rectangular pools. There are different procedures that
must be followed for those pools that are either circular or have no
specific shape at all.
There are also pool covers that work in more of an automated way and
actually can be controlled by a motor. This is a hefty investment for
some, but many of those who spend a lot of time messing with the covers
are happy to see that they are able to do things more effectively if
they choose to do so.
