Pool liner

Pool linerA pool liner can last nearly a lifetime, if properly cared for. To ensure that your liner gets the care that it needs to last as long as possible, take a look at the following tips:

• Stop leaks immediately – if a leak is allowed to go unchecked, large sinkholes may be created, as the leak leads to the corrosion of the walls and floor. If you start having to add more than an inch of water a week, be on the lookout for leaks.

• Keep it full – water should not be drained from the pool, nor should the level be allowed to drop too low. This is because it is the weight of the water that keeps the pool liner snug against the walls and floor, and if the water is taken away, a vacuum must be used to suck the liner back into place to avoid large wrinkles.

• Maintain proper PH levels – the pool should be kept at a PH between 7.2 and 7.6. A low PH level (below 7) can cause wrinkling in the liner. Be sure to test the water regularly. For tips on how to balance the PH, talk to a pool professional.

• Keep it clean – algae and bacteria can stain a pool liner. Keep proper care of the water.

• Be aware of chemicals – hydrochloric acid, while it can fix the PH, it can make the liner susceptible to wear and discoloration. Also, a mix of chemicals that would normally be added individually can create discoloration.

• Use a cover – a pool must be properly sealed up for the winter. Otherwise, debris can collect at the bottom of the pool, staining the liner.

Increase the life of a pool liner by following the abovementioned tips.
