Brushes are best used after swimmers are gone from the pool. Some automatic pool cleaners claim to take the place of brushes when it comes to removing unidentified build-up from the pool surface, but most surfaces look better after taking a brush to them manually.

Some of the best times to use pool brushes is just before and just after long breaks in the swimming season. For example, as the summer draws to a close, you will want to use a brush on the sides of the pool to make sure there is no more debris or film left over.

Then, when the pool opens back up towards the end of spring it will definitely need a good scrubbing since there is probably a build up of undesirable film on the pools sides and bottom over the long winter.

The best brushes will have long handles that allow you to make your way around the pool easily while also having long enough bristles to clean well.
